Default rear gear ratio?

Hello im wondering if someone can tell me where to look on my 00 a4 to find out what my rear gear ratio is ? Also ive been wondering with driving in 45mph traffic is it a bad idea to keep tranny in 3rd gear ?
thanks

Look for the Service Parts Identification (RPO) label which for your model year should be on the inside of your glove box lid. (For earlier model years, the RPO label is on the underneath side of one of the rear compartment lids.) This label will show the Regular Production Option (RPO) codes for your car as it was delivered from the factory.

Here's the RPO codes for each of the C5 rear axles:

G90 Axle, Rear, 3.15 Ratio (Auto. Trans. Only)
G92 Axle, Rear, Performance Ratio (3.15) (Auto. Trans. Only)
GU2 Axle, Rear, 2.73 Ratio (Auto. Trans. Only)
GU6 Axle, Rear, 3.42 Ratio (6-Speed Trans. Only)

And, here is one of the most comprehensive lists of C5 RPO codes that I have found:

C5 RPO Codes

Hope this helps!

Why would you want to do this??? Your motor will rev higher, there's more engine wear, more heat and your fuel ecomony will suffer. Me, I put mine in Drive and leave it there. Good luck w/ your car...

I keep it in third unless I exceed 50 mph. I have a 2.73 diff.
