Ok this has gotten to the point of almost being embarassing to drive the car. Any bump I go over yields a squeak that would rival a door in a house of a horror movie...
The car has over 150K miles on it and previous owner put coilovers on. I'm looking to switch to bilstens and all new bushings, Z06 swaybar/endlinks, etc. Now, having said all that...I really don't know the best place to get everything. I also am not even sure that all of that will fix my problem.
Are the bushings the usual culpret for squeaking?? My buddy has a '97 (mine is a '99) and his doesn't squeak at all. It's driving me absolutly crazy and at this point I've been driving the Tahoe instead because this thing is down right embarassing to drive when it squeaks like this. I know it shouldn't be a big deal to fix but I'm not sure where to start...
Any help here is appreciated. I'm looking for a specific "buy this, this and this" type answer...PKZ06STABKIT is the part no. for the z06 sway bar and endlinks from gmpartsdirect.com . So, who can help with everything else I need??
The squeaking is a common problem. It drove me nuts too. Its the sway bar bushings. Easy fix. There are 2 on the front sway bar and 2 on the back. Four bolts on each. Loosen the bolts and move bushings aside. Use a silicone based grease and lube the inside of the bushing and the part of the swaybar that it goes around. Put back together and do the rest the same way. No more squeaks and creaks.. You can also replace with polyureathane bushings. I think Ecklers or Mid-America sells them
Sway bar bushings was my problem. I ended up sanding down the area that was in contact with the bushing and repainting. Silicone greased the bushings and no more creaks.
Cool, I'm going to order all new bushings now and together with all the other stuff the car should handle 100x better anyways. The coilovers that are on there now are just too harsh of a ride for me.
