I'm taking my catbacks off and will be making my own exhaust. So I need to know what mufflers to use and ordered from Summit before but there is a great variaty to choose from. Can someone recommend me a type of muffler??I want a little more noise but not a drone... We'll be making the pipes of stainless steel and add some mufflers....Anyone have an idea??
Erik, I don't think you'll find many here who have made their own cat back exhaust system. Most buy them complete ready to install from Borla, Corsa, B&B, etc. If you really do want to do you own, I'd suggest modifying your existing mufflers. You can either cut them open and remove some of the inner baffles or weld in a by-pass pipe between the inlet and outlet pipes. The by-pass is the easiest to do and will definitely give you more sound.
Thanks George, never crossed my mind to do that....
A ready and bolt on exhaust kit will cost me here between 1400 and 2100 dollars(I've converted the Euro's to dollars..)
So the trick is to do it myself with some seperat mufflers or like you say ,to cut open the original exhaust..
Good things have been said about the Stock Z06 Titanium exhaust mufflers regarding sound and reduced restriction. The light weight might enable you to buy and have them shipped to you at a reasonable cost.
I recently purchased a set and am about to install them myself.
I think the amount of time, energy and effort that you would put in trying to fabricate your own system might be prohibitive. However if you have the time and inclination it might be fun.

Stock systems here are very cheap since a lot of folks take them off so you might want to buy a used system and experiment with that. You probably can pick up a used system for under $100.
I know you guys have the expression "going Dutch",meaning like a scrooge..... Well it's not that but we are those kind of guys that like to make things rather than buying stuff. It's cheaper yes,but it is also fun to create something that is a one of a kind.
We are creative enough.... www.rocketolds.nl
Of course they should be delivered to me, worn by a hot young dutch chick.....
This can be aranged, just make sure to send her home with my "free" exhaust.I've got a picture for you, hope she's not to young....

I don't know if you have seen this or not but here is a thread that shows a pic where a bypass has been welded into a set of Ti's. Looks like it could be easily done to the stock exhaust as well.
To be honest,I had another picture in mind but to stay classy I pulled this one out of my sleeve....
A bypass is also an option but for now I'll go for the flowmaster 40/50 series...I guess. It is still in a experimental fase but if I have some results I will let you all know what the outcome is.Maybe even a soundclip.
