Default A6 in a C5

Has anyone started on an upgrade of the C5 A4 to the C6 A6? I know the wheelbase was increased by 1 inch so there may be a need for a custom torque tube and then massageing of the trans tunnell and the new C6 diff may have to be included in the conversion with or without custom halfshafts. Then all thats left is the computer! Sounds like a massive job but the added content if done well could satisfy many C5 owners who otherwise might spend large sums to step up to a C6.

Yank said it would cost over $10,000, if I remember correctly, much more.

I don't see where these conversions are worth the cost/trouble; ditto MN6>A4 & A4>MN6. If these attributes are so important, trade yours in on what you want.

These are built for the hardcore racer already making MEGA RWHP and can't keep the A4 alive, or a clutch in a MN6. It's a little over $10k for the package, but it uses a driveshaft instead of the torque tube and there is a lot of work involved in making the kit.
If you want a tranny just to have, then I would have to agree with above and say trade your car in on a C6. But if you already have $$$ invested in a race car, then this kit would make since.

you can have your A4 built up to be just as strong as an A6 for a hell of a lot less money. And it will fit perfectly wthout any problems.

Default Gear vendor

When I bought my 04a4 a year ago I had a Gear Vendor with all the trimmings that I took out of a vehicle I sold. I have a friend who has dealt with Gear Vendor for years and is a good friend of the owner. So, I thought, an easy do- not so. Gear Vendor no longer does the install of the product in C5s. The install requires cutting down the driveshaft and torque tube assembly and they had problems with the interanl housing bearings. They suggested I call Lingenfelter (which I did), and was told in so many words, if it wasn't their install no info. So if you want to do the install I have a GV for sale.

Yes, I looked at the gear Vendor and found it was way too much work for little gain. The 6L80E is a much stouter option - and $10k is just x3.5 Rodney race built trannies

I'm wondering if someone is making so much power that a RPM A4 won't hold up, if maybe it's time to just go with a 2 speed. If you have that much power, I wouldn't think you don't need a lot of gears.

If the A6 is a stouter tranny, could there be a Z06 A6 in the offing? Now I could really go for a Z06 A6 Vert.

Are you starting to show your age? Automatic? This 7th decader with titanium knees loves his MN6. Now I could really go for a Z06 Vert.
