I searched the forums and can't find this problem addressed anywhere. This is a stock 1999 C5 except for catback exhaust and CAG eliminator.
I'd appreicate your thoughts on this:
I recently returned from a trip and put the vette on the battery tender as usual. I checked it on and off for several days and noticed I wasn't getting a green light on the tender like I normally do. I decided to pull the cover back and see if I could find something that might be causing a drain.
What I found was the temperature control panel light is remaining on. All the rest of the interior lighting/dash lighting is out. I have turned everything on/off a few times to attempt to re-set it but no luck.
Wow,,,thats a strange one. I would say that you either have a bad AC control module or a possible bad ground that is allowing the voltage to sneak through that circuit. It could also be a bad relay. I am at work and dont have access to my manuals. I will look into this one tonight!! VERY INTERESTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill - Glad you saw this, if anyone can figure this out you probably can. Yes, it makes no difference if the battery tender is connected or not, the panel stays on.
What light on the HVAC control pannel is ON? Is it the display or the back light on the pannel? It makes a BIG difference on what schematics that I need to pull up!
Here are ALL the fuses for the HVAC system:
IP Fuse block:
Fuse# 27
Fuse# 51
Fuse# 18
Under Hood Fuse block:
Fuse# 16
Fuse# 24
Please pull one of the above listed fuses ONE AT A TIME and let me know what one causes the light to go out! Until I can pin point your specific problem, that is a way that you can prevent your dead battery.

Bill:
The light is the HVAC control panel back light. HVAC individual sys lights go on and off as they should depending on settings. This is the back light that illuminates the whole panel, as for night driving when the headlights/gauge lights, etc, are on.
IP Fuse #27 makes it go out.
(Pulling that fuse also, for whatever reason, drops my FOB recognition which I re-set )
At least I can turn off the light, not sure what else that fuse controls.
Thanks for the reply, let me know what you make of it
Mini fuse #27 provides power to the HVAC Control Head and the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver!
The power comes from the ORANGE wire on C1 pin "E". Looking at all the lighting schematics, there is also some lighting controlled by the BCM. That lighting comes from a yellow wire on plug C1 pin "J" The ground wire is on pin "K"
Your going to need to do some meter probing to figure out which one is staying HOT and not shutting down. If I was a betting man, I would say that the BCM is the one that is giving it power when it shouldnt OR you have a bad display unit.!
Bill Curlee comes through again! Thanks for all the info and assistance. (also sports fans, there were numerous pms between BC and I wherein he was helping me undertand this).
Electrical stuff is not my strong suit but I will see what I can do now that this problem is pinned down. I may have to take it in for the final fix. However, now that I understand the problem, this will ensure I don't end up paying for a bunch of dealer voodoo/mumbo jumbo speak.
