Put the 3.90's higher on the list; best mod I've done so far.

Default gears

Well I had thought of making that first but I do have the 3.42 already so I would rather make the hp first

What do you use your car for? Not a dumb question realy IMO and not trying to be a jerk here. Do you drag race? Just cruise and want some more HP?

If it is the later, I would say CAM, headers, and a tune. Heads are nice but realy cost more than what you are looking at (2k ish not sure how much for PRC). You can grab an LS6 intake from here for 350, a nice cam kit from TSP (need rods, good springs, retainers ect) and some LTs and a good tune and you will be all set.

That FRC must be very nice with only 13k on it, very nice brother. There is an awesome shop in Durham and a great tuner, Jeff Creech. He has done all the work and tuning on my car and I highly recomend him and his work.

I am also in NC, and a bunch of us are headed to Jackson on the 24th. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1366696 Come out and see, ride, hear some cars.

The SLP is nasty and might be too much for an off road LT system, so you might want to think about cats. Anyways, please let me know if I can help.

Here is the prority..
1. 3.90's or 4.10's
2. FAST intake forget the LS6... Especially if you plan to go heads and cam later..
3. Cam
4. Heads
5. Long tube headers

Don't waste the money on the Hi flow cats..

Gears need to be first.. because although they cannot be measured on a dyno... YOu will FEEL the most from a set of 4.10's they turn the car into an ANIMAL!! without the lumpy cam and all that.. They will effectivly make the car perform as though you had an additional 75ft/lbs of torque that is available on tap from 1rpm to redline... Not the peaky cam that only comes in after 3000 rpms..

$3,000 isn't quite enough for all of those mods.

3.90's are a grand if you get a good deal.
LS6 intake is $300-350.
Cam $300 - $400.
Good springs are another $200 - 300.
Add $100 for pushrods.
Long tube headers are around a grand.
Hi flow cats are another $200-400.
Even budget heads will be $1,100 - $1,300.

Good luck,

Mark

I disagree as with 2, $ is tight and an LS6 intake is a good upgrade from an LS1 intake. A FAST in 78mm to use the LS1 TB is maybe as good on top as an LS6, but will loose torq. If you are looking @ a FAST, you need a 90mm and a new TB (850 and 150, plus harness if my memory is corect or close). Bluff saving some bucks on an LS6 intake. As a side note which has been beat to death, a stock cube LSX does not pick up a great gain with a FAST 90 and LS2 TB but thta is off point of this thread and I have been there done that...

He has an SLP loud mouth on the way and those are crazy load To keep his mind he will need cats to take off some of the drone and edge. I ran my car with-out cats and a small cam for a few months and it was way too much for the streets, and I love crazy agresive sounding cars. With Lts and loud mouths he will need cats if he even wants to cruise on the street IMO with out being pulled over daily.

IMO it all goes back to what his intent with the car is. Gears would be great (been there done that too) but cost might be out of his range.

These have been great sugestions, but let's look at instalation costs too unless he is blessed with a skills or a good friend who can help. PLus let's not foreget the tune. A CAM does not have to lump @ idle or be peaky. It's all in the tune and the cam choice. Lot's of folks making great HP and torq with smaller duration cams than a few years ago.

Good thread and I hope this helps.

My 99 FRC made 401rwhp w/ z06 heads, intake and longtubes. The cam is the F13 on 114+1. It had the stock air box at the time and ported TB. I did the work in the garage and saved $$$$$. I spent around 2600 total on parts. Some used some new. The cam has a nice lope and works great on the street. Just got back from a 6 hour trip with no problems. 23mpg.
Good luck

Well as I previously stated 3k is the budget and at these prices which I have thoroughly researched it is....

1) prc heads 1000
2) cam 425 ish
3) lts and x pipe 850
4) ls6 intake can be had for 325 ish

All work will be done by me and buddies w/ the help of M.P.H. 172....thanks in advance for the help micah. At a shop w/ all tools known to man and professional help. Tune will be done at RPM in Raleigh. I already have the injectors, ported ls6 oil pump, gaskets... etc. I only have to buy a ud pulley, rods and ls2 timing chain, in a seperate budget.
As far as I am concerned this is my dd so for now the 3.90s are not necessary being that I already have the 3.42s and will be making that kinda power.Fear not though the gears will follow shortly after within a few months.

Oh and Yes I drag race at every opportunity possible.

I would skip the UD pulley. My friends did not help him any as far as hp. Make sure you get the balancer bolt trqd to 250 lbs. Then back it out and put the new one in as described on ls1howto. I went to 200 lbs the first time and mine backed off on me so I had to yank the rack out again to retrq it. I also got a water pump gasket off and had to remove some stuff to replace it AGAIN. Take your time and tripple check everything Soon you will have a street monster in the garage
