So I drove my vette home on my lunch break today because I live close to work and I went inside for about 40 minutes. When I came back out, it was completely dead. I mean, when I put the key in, NOTHING happens. It won't turn over at all. The display doesn't even light up. My keyless entry doesn't work. I can't pop the hatch. I don't get it. It was perfectly fine on the drive home. No warning of anything being wrong. And then it just inexplicably dies?? Anyone have any insight?? I guess maybe I'm getting it towed to the dealer......
Wait 5-10 mins. then go try it again. I have had something similar happen. The first time it happened, I disconnected the battery and it worked fine. When it happened again, I just waited. Did the interior lights go on? When you turned the key, was it completely dead? Check the codes. One of them may be a security code. Thats what mine threw. Good luck

It's been hours now and I've tried several times since. I'm not getting anything. I can't check the codes because the display does not come up.

just tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. still nothing. i'm starting to fear that it's not an electrical problem but something worse.....it doesn't make any sense to me that the battery would die so quickly for no apparent reason. i replaced it not that long ago.
How old is your battery? If a cell or two dies, a battery can be so dead, a jump won't help start the car at all. I'd remove the battery and take it to your nearest auto parts store to have it tested.
A strap or post can break inside the battery and it will be completely dead instantly. Did you remove both cables and reinstall them? Sounds a lot like a bad battery cable connection or bad battery. If you have a volt meter remove both cables and check the voltage right on the battery posts.

Don't be so quick to exonerate your battery. The symptoms you've described are classic for a battery with a dead cell. Typically, everything's just fine and then BAM, dead as a door-nail....
Do a bit of diagnosis yourself before going to the dealer. Take the old battery out and and throw in a new one, it won't go to waste and you'll probably have just fixed it without having sex with the dealer...
Last weekend I was in the staging lanes. Shut the car off. Turned it on 3 minutes later...DEAD..nothing.....same thing as you. It was the battery. Only thing it was one year old one. Had AAA deliver a battery to the track and raced later in the afternoon........
The exact same thing happened to me this past weekend in my truck. Stopped to do an errand. I was out of the truck less than 2 minutes and the battery was completely dead when I went to restart it. Replaced the battery and the truck's been fine. BTW, the battery in my truck was the one out of my '03 Z06. I had put an Optima in the Vette.
