Default Z06 screens

I'm about to put in my Z06 screens, it has double sided tape attatched to it. Do you all use this tape or put on velcro instead? If so, are you worried about them falling out or someone stealing them ?

just let me tell you that they are hard to remove with velcro if you ever need to. Im thinking that double sided tape would be just the same. If you plan on never removing them, you should be fine. BTW velcro holds very well.

The double sided sticky tape that comes on those should actually be 3M acrylic trim tape. That stuff is nearly impossible to remove if installed properly. You need to make sure that you install that with an out side temperature of at least 70 degrees. Also make sure that you wip down the entier area with isoproplyene alcohol and let area air dry for about 15minutes it is essential make sure that all the waxes or any type of contaminents are removed from the vehicles body or the tape will not hold.

If you do ever need to remove anything held on via acrylic trim tape you need to heat the attached area up with a hair dryer or heat gun make sure to keep adequate distance from the surface to make sure that you do not burn or melt your car. Also find some type of wedge that you can use to stick between the part and your cars body wood or plastic (do not use metal).

the tape will generally tear and leave a residue on the surface at this point you will need to again use isoproplyene alcohol and wax remover to clean the surface.

Happy sticking

I just ordered the GM ones from Fitchners for $67.64 each plus shipping. They are held on with three screws and won't come up missing later.

I used Velcro on mine, very easy to install and remove. The part I like is when installing them. Once you get each half of the Velcro strips in place put paper over them so when you slide the screen in you can align it up the way you like then pull the paper out. Getting them out will cost you $2 in body putty blades. When you want to take them out just slide the blade between the two halves of the Velcro and pull the screen out.

OEM GM screens use 2 screws on the bottom and 2 clips on top

all screens that i've seen held in by tape or velcro just don't look correct

I'm with you. Thats why I took mine off. The car looked good from a far but when you got up close you could see the vent spaced off of the body by maybe a 1/16" from the tape which was enough to create a gap.

Not to mention the fact that you may find the velcroed or taped in pieces missing if someone wants them. It is worth the $150 to go with the GM ones.

How difficult is it to install the GM screens with the screws? Is a major front end disassembly required?
