I've searched the forums and lstech... can't find the answer(s).
With a 97 LS1 going to used LS6 heads and a 224 cam, should I change my oil pump (43K miles) when I do the swap? I'm getting an LS2 timing chain, but the LS6 valve springs should be fine, right? And do I need better pushrods? Will I need longer/shorter pushrods? I'm trying to get a complete parts list.

Thanks!!
Change to an LS6 (at least) oil pump, and replace the stock LS6 valvesprings.(with quality aftermarket) They've been known to fail, and ruin engines, so cheap insurance. Pushrods are known problem areas as well, so get new hardened PRs, in stock 7.4 length. Also upgrade to a 2001-up intake manifold and TB, which will require a rework of your older PCV setup.
your oil pump like mine is **** to failure.. replace with an LS6 oil pump... several companies offer ported pumps to flow more oil.
Actually, most of those are just mildly reworked stock LS6 pumps, and not proven to improve overall flow. Some guys have reported lower pressure with so-called "blue printed" oil pumps, but I don't know what the truth of the matter may be.
Get a LS4 Oil Pump from Fred Beans. They are less than $60, unless they went up. They are suppose to flow about 30% more oil. Also get a new O-ring too no matter what pump you choose, because the pump doesn't come with one.
You can get a new set of LS6 Valve springs for under $70. The Better Comp Cam 918's are a little more than double that. These are single valve springs.
IMO, I don't think the hardened pushrods are that necassary until you start running double valve springs with way more spring pressure.
Actually, the "224 cam" doesn't tell us much, as depending on you lobe profile, you lift could be anything from .540-590. If your lift is much more than .550, you will need something better than the LS6 springs.
