the column lock on my 2000 a4 convert locked up the other night when I was shopping. I did not realize that it was locked until I pulled forward about five feet and turned to avoid a curb and nothing it was locked I scratched the body panel below the drivers door and just caught the rim as I stopped. despite all my attempts, that had previously worked to get it unlocked, all failed. I also tried retracting the pin manually and slipping a credit card in between the column lock mech. and the steel disk that it engages into so I could get it home but the computer shut the fuel off after about ten feet. so I called a flatbed to have it towed, when he got there he said he would have to come back in the morning because it sat so low to the ground he did not want to mess it up. so the next morning I went back to watch them and I tried starting it up before they got there and the column lock retracted so I drove it to the dealer. I then let it sit there for three days before they called me and told me that they would not fix it for they could not replicate the problem in the shop and I was 1 digit out of the recall. the dealer told me that the recall symtoms say that it locks and stays locked and you can not move the vehicle. Is this true or not. I called gm and got a file # but no results yet please help. why should I have to drive around with a scratch on my car because of a malfunction in their design. I am going to order a CLB but what do I do with the scratch. if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated
Glad you came to the Forum; good place! Sorry about your problem, but definately get the CLB!!! They can and do lock up. Can't help with the scratch. :(

I agree. Install the column lock bypass from C5 Solutions and never worry about this again. I've had mine on for 1 1/2 years and don't even think about the lock anymore. Great peace of mind.
