Hi.I have a 2001 vette.Started it up today and the wipers went on and will not turn off.All the wiper operations work by the control switches but off will not.By doing a search on this forum I found that it seems to be the wiper motor at fault.I was wondering about a few things.1.How difficult is it to fix,can I do it myself.2.Do I need a new motor or can the electric module be changed on the motor.3.Were is the best place to buy parts needed.4.Did anyone have this done by the dealer and how much did it cost.First problem with my vette since I had it for three years.Love this car!!I appreciate all who answer.Thanks.HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!
First, find the cause: often it's the 3 'udders' right under the motor, for more info ck out Bill Curlee's post up top, I wouldn't be suprised if yours are full of leaves/mud not allowing them to drain and causing the motor to sit in a pool of water
1. not very/yes
2. never seen the module replaced/need new motor(sometimes it's the wiper stalk)
3. autozone sells the motors
4. dealer?
where are you located, someone may be able to help
check your fuses also check the module for the wipers and ensure the drain holes by the lower conner of the windshiled in the engine compartment are clear of junk, otherwise the module will get flooded and with time water will go inside the module and will cause the problems like wippers possed by demonds or acting weird or alive and finally quit working...I had to clean ours and take the module apart then I use electric tunner from Radio Shack to clean all circuit board and dry it with hairblower then put all back togueter and they work fine now..
Ok,got my hands in there. The well is clean, drain holes are clean.Boy,I know now while they call them utters.Damn who ever designed that!!! Nice cow! Anyway all clean.Ordered new motor from dealer.
This may be an oversimplification, but..are the wipers moving at a steady pace or intermittent? If interm., make sure the stalk on right side of steering column isn't pushed down (toward dash). If it is, the wipers will make intermittent strokes regardless of what you do with the other controls. It happened to me and drove me nutty until I figured out what it was.

Also another very simple thing worth trying is to remove the wiper fuse for a fews seconds and re-insert. See if the wipers will reset and go down. It's down in the pass. side footwell. Check the decal on the inside of the lid for the location. It's blue. I think blue is 10amp if I recall.

Mine started this too.... arnt these cars awesome... I'd like to beat the electrical engineer that designed them. I just took my rubber udders off. All they did was collect dirt and create problems.

Do I have to take the shield cover off to get at these udders? Sounds like this may be the cause.
I replaced mine over 5 years ago, opened it up and there was water and corrosion inside the motor's circuit board, swapped it for a Autozone reman, for about 40.00 I think.
Also cleaned the leaves out of the udders.
I noticed on a Chevy Astro van, I had a 1999 Astro for work, the wiper motor looked exactly like the Corvette one.
1. not too hard, but you need time, yes do it yourself
2. I suggest changing the whole assembly w/ motor, they sell it as a one piece on ebay for CHEAP (do not ever go to dealership to order parts)

4. No dealer,,,search thread on how to "remove windshield wipers".....you will learn how to remove your wiper motor/ assembly and replace,,,I just replaced mine after they went crazy after a car wash (motor got wet and malfunctioned) also replaced washer pump hose that leads from the wipers to the pump motor...also, CUT THE BOTTOM OF THE UDDERS TO PREVENT WATER FROM FILLING UP AGAIN, otherwise your new motor will burn out again....
I just went out there and pulled the udders right out.. Mine were indeed clogged with dirt and moisture, but here in Michigan the last 2 days have been very hot with no rain, so if there is still water in the motor circuit I'd be surprised, the wipers won't bottom out and go in the off position no less, and I can hear a ticking sound when I put the intermittent on but the motor will just not go in the off position.
FYI
When taking your wiper arms off, make sure you spay some WD40 oil on the thread shaft, then take your 1/2 socket attached to the 5" extension and take a hammer and tap on it a few times. These arms are hard to pull off so let the oil penetrate about 20 minutes before you go pulling these arms off.
Also the plastic screen shroud that covers the motor (I learned the hard way) when you pull that thing off or put it back on be careful there are some plastic tabs under it that go under the glass and they will easily break off.
This is a great time to also paint your arms if you need to.
Thanks guys I Washed my 98 C5 and the wippers were doing this crazy thing...ie not shutting off. So i cleaned the utters waitted 2 days. It was still happening. I read some more. I pulled the arm off adn black plastic w/the screen. Got down to where i was going to pull the motor out and tryed them again let them run for like 45 seconds and they parked. So i put everything back together and it did it again. waitted like 20 mins more ( as i read more on here) started the car up played with the differnt postions and it is parking again. Not sure if i have the problem still just wanted to say thanks for all the post on here.
