I have a 99 vert - on occasion the alarm will sound once and the doors will lock by themselves. It usually happens when the car in in the garage when i leave the keys on the seat. If they are left in ignition (I dont do that anymore since it drains the battery) the doors don't lock.
the FOB switch is in off position.
Plus I hear the alarm go off at times when I have the keys upstairs and the car in ithe garage in the lower level of house.
Any thoughts ???
if your house is like mine and the garage is right underneath the kitchen that could be it. check to see if the other remote is also turned off. the only other thing i can think of is that sometimes the switch inside the fob sticks. ive read of a way to permanantly turn it off. do a search here and in c5 general and you should find it
Three thoughts here: 1. the other fob in the drawer is being unknowingly activated by someone looking for something else in the drawer. 2. a signal from something else in the house is being transmitted that is close enough to your fob signal to activate your car. 3. another fob signal is being transmitted in the neighborhood and sometimes is picked up by your car.
Had a similar problem with mine (99). The Passive switch gets dirty. Clean out the FOB especially the pocket lint that accumulates in the Passive area. If this does not work open it and slip the wire.
Mine seems to be stuck in the passive mode. I just took it apart and found no wire to snip. Its a pain in the butt, as it will run my battery down if I dont drive for several days.I now have to locate it far enough away that it stays locked. Moving the switch does nothing...
There are two things to check here. Look in the DIC "OPTIONS' page and find the FOB settings. Turn passive OFF! If that doesn't fix it, you could have a BCM problem.. If the BCM has ever or is being exposed to dampness, the circuit board can corrode and cause some really strange un logical things to happen. Ask me how I know!
Even after I turned the **** off and cleaned the interior of the fob out.... I just purchased a couple of more on ebay and reprogrammed them.... I was just recently told by a friend there is a wire or solder joint to cut that will eliminate the problem... They use this in the new aftermarket corvette keys (looks like a mercedes key) Folds open when you push a button and the guts of the fob fit in the key so one key does alarm/door locks.... Its pretty cool ..... We both have c5 1998 vetts just FYI....

I had one of my fobs do that yesterday, after a battery change. It was still functioning in the passive mode, even with the switch in the off position. Finally got it turned off by moving the switch back and forth about 4-5 times. Apparently the switch contacts were dirty. You might want to give that a try.
Went out to see if I could program passive out,, lucky me, left front tire was flat as a pancake, picked uo nasty puncture. ten penny nail size. Wasn't a nail or a screw, in fact it was something I had never seen before. Plugged the tire and reprogrammed options on fob, seems to be working.Three years and 4 months and 14,000 miles on those fronts, just replaced the rears two months ago, the fronts still have 35% or more of the tread left. Will see if the plug holds air, if not time for new fronts.
I'm having the same problems on my 99 last night alarm started going off while the car was in the garage two hours after I parked it. I never locked it.
It happened to me once. I had the keys in the ignition and put something in the trunk. When I closed the lid I heard the car lock. I had to take a taxi home to get the other keys.
This happened also on my 2005 Cadillac STS, but I was able to call On Star to unlock my car.
