A few months ago, I purchased a 1999 vert. The owner also threw in another set of wheels and tires. Yesterday, I took the car to America's Tires to have the switch made (The newer wheels/tires are from a 2002 so they had a different sensor that had to be swapped out). When I got home, my son said that the 'covers' - The part that says CORVETTE - was missing from both rear wheels.
Two questions - Is this an important piece of the braking system (or is it cosmetic)? And - The only time these can be removed is when the wheels are off the car, correct?
I am sure that the store will deny any wrongdoing.
Thanks!
Larry
Thanks for the quick and professional response!
My mistake!
I was already upset at a few things they did (or did not do): I had asked that the 2001 sensors be 'given to me'; instead, they installed them in the take off tires and wheels. I had asked that just regular valve stems be put in the take offs (It was included on the work order) and that was not done. They stripped one of the sensors - they said that it was already stripped. I asked for it and they had to go get it out of the garbage. It is stripped, but no way to tell when. I have put 4,000 miles on the car.
One interesting, and maybe positive point - they said the replacement sensor would be $30.00. The manager said they deal directly with the manufacturer. It is 'on order', so when it comes in, I'll tell you if they stayed to their word on price. If true, that is $120/set for new sensors. Not bad.
The tire dealers always seem to have an "inside deal" on these TPS sensors, presumably because they frequently damage them upon un-mounting / mounting tires (due to carelessness).
The 2001+ TPS sensors are much cheaper than the 97~2000 models.
