Default nitrous

hello guys..

Im pretty sure im going to be going with some wet nitrous very soon. I just wanted to get a little bit of info from the guys that have done it. How well it goes on and such, other brands, and posssibliy the package deals.

Im looking at a zex kit, mainly due to some computer module it contains. that 'says when and when not the nitrous is safe' and various other things i presume.

I have an 1999 a4 coupe with 75k miles.. opinions?.. safeguards? watch outs!!?

Thank guys

Joe

I'd go dry on a 75-125 shot. Less to go wrong and 100% safe with a proper tune.

Dry doesn't rely upon a separate fuel solenoid to provide extra fuel. Your maf senses the extra flow and adds more fuel proportionally. Therefore it's considered safer, cause you don't have to worry about a noid sticking, just let the PCM do it's thing.

Of course the PCM can only compensate so much, that's why larger shots are typically wet, cause they provide their own fuel.

By the way there are no computer components in the "little purple box." It contains the nitrous and fuel solenoids for the nitrous system. Instead of having them mounted open in the engine bay they are contained the Nitrous Management Unit with a clearly marked input for "fuel" and one for "nitrous." Simplifies and cleans up the install in my opinion but no better than NX or NOS just because of the box. My experience has been good with ZEX on my Mustang but haven't switched to nitrous yet on the Vette as I like power all the time and this car responds REALLY well to bolt-ons like air intakes and headers as well as gears/tune. Either way you go do as much research as you can and good luck.....

Bounty your wrong, there is a circuit board which sences tps voltage and has a memory learning feature to complete the ground circuit at a given voltage from the tps which activates the solinoids only at WOT. If you are putting an MSD digital window switch (strongly suggest) or fuel pressure safety switch in, you will need to run a powered relay which is used to cut the tps signal when outside the peramiters. DO NOT use these safety devices to disconnect the grounds to the ZEX module or the pcm will go into reduced power mode because a back feed of voltage goes up to the tps. Wire the box up as instructed with an arming switch but also use the power from the arming switch to power the relay and the ground from the relay will run through the safety pressure and window switch. Then connect the tps sensing wire to the switched terminals on the relay, this way the system will be armed and ready, then the tps will be sending a signal to the module at wot but untill the peramiters are met of the safety switchs, the signal wont get through untill they are reached. the safety switchs complete the ground on the relay completing the tps circuit. I have the 125 shot on mine and with heads and cam and it made 550rwhp with an automatic.

Tunes are rarely "needed"......but it provides alot of peace of mind to know EXACTLY what is going on both on motor and on nitrous. Plus, a good tuner who is experienced with nitrous can set you up so you're in excellent shape both on motor alone and on nitrous. Here's the numbers on my GTO after a tune......

353rwhp 344 rwtq on motor
448rwhp 486 rwtq on nitrous

That's a 224/224 cam only LS1.....no headers, no other mods, not even a CAI. Pretty good numbers on motor for a mild cam only setup.

The nitrous numbers are with an NOS dry kit 100 shot, and NOS rates their shots at the motor. So after being tuned for nitrous on a 100 motor rated shot, I gained 95rwhp and 142rwtq. Plus a good tuner can tune in some safety factors....like if you freeze your MAF it starts dumping extra fuel for safety so it doesn't lean out. Not bad.....and I know I'm totally safe. Money well spent on the tune in my book.
