Default Queston about pulling codes

A buddy has a 2002 and got a "Service ABS" and "Service Traction Control" on his DIC. He asked me what to do and I said well first let's pull some codes to see what we are dealing with. He started to pull the codes per instructions on the Forum but all he keeps getting is the Service ABS and Service Traction control etc. language on his DIC. The system never goes into the sequencing where it reads each of the areas and shows "No codes" or codes with each code. Pressing reset to clear those messages we keep getting does not seem to allow us to move on to checking the codes.

????? Help..............Any suggestions.

Bob

Follow the directions EXACTLY. With the car OFF, take the ignition to ON, but don't start the car. If any messages are present, hit the reset, then proceed as the forum direction describe. It works, don't ask how I know

Not sure exactly what you are doing, and I'm no expert. But, you may want to check some of the ground points and clean them up, also check the battery. Look at the sticky at the top of this forum. If the battery is not in great condition, think about getting a new one. I've heard the C5's are fussy about their batteries, mine died last summer with no warning. Seemed to crank fine, then nothing. No slow cranking or anything...

But, that would be two things to check on assuming that the brakes work. If any doubt, don't drive it until you are sure it will work.

You'll need to reset any messages that appear but after that you should be able to get in the Diagnostic (codes) section.

Thanks. I went over with all this him on the phone before I posted the request, but he insists he is doing it per instructions. I may have to go over to his house and see if I can help.

Bob

Met up with my buddy this afternoon and he was not following the correct procedure sure enough. We got the codes off. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
