Got the check engine light last week. Pulled the codes today but all I find are History codes "H" codes. Shouldn't I be finding a code that ends with the "C" for the current code? I'm confused. Can anyone help a novice out.

Transitory CEL is common.
Pulling the codes is good practice. H codes came reflect transitory events. The Cs are of more concern.
Temporary commo issues are the most common when a processor doesn't receive a report from a sensor at the expected interval.
Another is a lean code if you have an aftermarket intake.
In the FAQ sticky is a list of the codes and their meanings. Suggest you look them up and post questions if any are unclear.
This is sad but true...some history codes can be current as well Sometimes I think the engineers do this as some kind of joke but that's what the manual says about some of the codes.
The CEL light can go on (I think) if one of the gauges goes into the danger zone also-what are your gauges saying?? This may/my NOT trigger a stored code.

Make sure the gas cap is on tight....it happened to me.

This is true.
At track when I get CEL for getting temps too high there is NO code !!
If you shut down the motor and then turn the key to pull codes, they will be history codes. If you pull codes but don't shut down the motor they are likely "C" codes. Found that out last night with my rich bank 1 code I am trying to figure out.
These are the only codes I found. Would any of these give me a check engine light since they are all History codes?
10-PCM P1870 H
60-IPC B0521 H
U1160 H
B0-RFA U1096 H
U 1064 H
U1016 H
10-PCM (Powertrain Control Module)
P1870 H....Transmission Component Slipping
60-IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
B0521 H....Tachometer Signal Circuit Malfunction
U1160 H....Loss of Communications with LDCM
B0-RFA
U1096 H....Loss of Communications with IPC
U1064 H....Loss of Communications with BCM
U1016 H....Loss of Communications with PCM
None of those would concern me except P1870, which I'll not seen before and can't help with. I would clear all the codes and then go for a drive. Then recheck. Commo codes are usually based on transitory events.
The 1870 transmission slipping is cause you have an A4. It may be going out. Do you have a custom tune? Are you getting hard shifts?? What are your tranny temps???

I noticed some hard shifts about four or five different times the other day while cruising around town. Didn't really think about it much because the hard shifting stopped and hasn't been back since.
I do not have a custom tune and I'll have to check my tranny temps, pretty sure its not running too hot, but I will check.
