I got mine out without any problem. I used a set of needle nose pliers, a towel, and a flat head screwdriver.

1. I wrapped the old shifter **** with a piece of towel in order to not scratch the ****.

2. I positioned the screwdriver under the edge of the "key" and went from right to left sides prying just a little on each side until I could see the small cutout hole that runs through the underside of the "key".

3. Once I saw that hole appear, I placed the screwdriver on one side inside the hole and the needle nose pliers on the other side, inside the hole as well. (While making sure I was still using the towel as a pivot point) and then slowly pryed upwards on both sides at the same time and the key popped right out.

Hope this works and good luck with the install.

Even easier way, if you haven't already ruined the edges, is to use two flat screwdrivers, positioned on either side of the key. Use the leverage to wiggle the damn thing out by pressing against the sides at about a 45 deg. angle, and wedgeing the 'drivers like a wine cork opener.

clamp a vice grip pliers on the demon key with the jaws facing driver and passenger side.
while wiggling the pliers to the front and back, hit the passenger side of the vice grip jaw with 2-3 sharp medium whacks with a hammer....
2-3 hits and out it pops

Unfortunately, with this, and any other method that uses vice grips, if the key is really stuck in there, this will only ruin the edges of the key, making it impossible to remove without drilling.

Default Another vice grip method

I used this method as recommended by another forum member I can't remember.

If you use two pairs of vice grips, one to grab the key and then one to grab the other set at a right angle you can then hit the 2nd set of vice grips with a hammer and all of the force will be lifting the key instead of moving it side to side. Start very soft with the tapping and work your way up until it comes out. You shouldn't have to use a whole lot of force.

Good Luck!

Try this:

Prying up on the screwdriver will create a lot of vertical force. Worked great for me. No damage to shift ****.

I got really inventive with mine... I built a slide hammer...

I purchased a long threaded Eye bolt with the same thread size as the adjusting bolt on a pair of vice grips. Then I threaded the Eye bolt through a 5lb barbell plate and then screwed it into the vice grips..

Then I clamped the vice grips down on said demon key and then slapped the barbell plate upwards a few times and viola.. the 3rd hit it was out...

A WD-40 spritzer will unstick the key every time.

For future reference, use this method - works every time!

Offset flat screwdriver. Looks and works as well as a tiny flat bar. Plus a small amount of lube. Mine came right out.
