Rearend gear swap question.
I have a 1998 C5 with the 2.73 ring and pinion gear...which sucks, and I want to replace it with a 3.43, or a 3.73
Are the carriers for the 3.43\3.73 the same as 2.73? I guess I'm asking could I keep the diff, and only swap the gear? Sorry if this has been asked before, and I did search, but I could not find the answer.
Oh...and the 3.43 ring and pinion I'm looking at is out of a Z06.....any difference between the coupe and Z06 diff\ring and pinion?

no, the carriers are not exactly the same - but somewhat similar though.
I know of only one company that can swap R&P gears in the "2 series" 2.73 carrier case... and that'S DTE in Indiana.
definately not a DIY project.

The 2.73/3.15 carrier is diferent then the 3.42/3.73/3.90/4.10 carrier. So if you want to change out the gears yourself you're going to need a new carrier.......which BTW will be extremely tough to do without the right equipment. You're best bet is to just buy a new diff from DTE with the correct gearing you want and install that.

GM only installed 2.73, 3.15, & 3.42 ratios in the C5. GM sold a 3.73 complete carrier through GMPD - though it was expensive.
a vendor had Motive Gear cast 3.73, 3.90, & 4.10 gear sets for the aftermarket.
most 3.73 carriers, and all 3.90 & 4.10 carriers - have been reworked.
