I have concerns about the Vortex Intake that came with my recently purchased '98 coupe. Seems to be some issue on these forums if the duct and or filter combination are adequate.
I was planning on replacing the element but if the Vortex elements are a problem is there another like K&N that might fit in the housing?

Some posts indicate that the duct is not strong enough or the filter element is to restrictive and causes the duct to colapse at high RPM ( high flow )
If so I was wondering if a K&N could fit in the Vortex.
That's the first I've heard of it. I have had a Vortex on now for 6 years, no issues here. If it did collapse I would have felt the drop in power. I haven't. Define too restrictive. It's certainly less restrictive than the stock filter/air box.
Sounds to me you're confusing the BPP Vortex with the Vararam. The Vortex has no duct. It obtains its air from a cutout in the radiator shroud. The earlier Vararams seemed to have had an issue with an inferior filter in its ability to filter.
I've had my Vortex for 6 years with absolutely no issues.
Thanks for the replys. Yes you could be correct. I may be confusing brands. Since no paperwork came with the car I am a little lost.
I see no performance problems so I guess I will keep running. I will be attending Carlisle next month and will walk, look, talk and learn as I go. Thanks again.
