i have a 2002 z06 with about 9000 miles on it. it has a slight vibration at 2050 rpms that lasts to 2150 rpms. it can be felt in the shifter slightly but seems to come more from the rear of the car. clutch is stock as is the rear end and trany so i dont think the rear has ever been dropped on the car. the motor seems very smooth. i have noticed that the right exhaust seems to move quite a bit at idle and at slight revs. the left side does not do this. the exhaust is a set of B&B prts. i was wondering if this vibration could be caused by the prts or the exhaust pipes not being tight enough. anyone had this experiance before? the car does it sitting in nutral with clutch in and out. it does it in all gears at all speeds with the clutch in or out. any help would be great. the vibration is not really bad it is just noticeable and can be a little annoying.
thanks for the info the car had long tubes on it before i got it so at least this could be a start. i am welcome to other ideas too in case this turnes out to not be the problem.
assuming your using a Factory H-pipe.. i'm willing to bet a coke on this..
you or whoever installed your exhaust.. broke the weld on the h-pipe flang (very easy to do) that connects to the mufflers... it will be hard to see on the ground... if you get under your car and have someone or yourself wiggle the muffler up and down you will notice it pivets there where as the other does not... I'll even go to guess you probably only hear the noise for the most part when going up hill.. The viberation is coming from the exhaust pipe rubbing on the rear sway bar...
Fix.. remove H-pipe and reweld it.. If you take it to an exhaust shop they can probably do this pretty cheap without actually removing the h-pipe.
you owe me a coke! i found the problem. it was the exhaust but nothing was broken. it appears that it was just resonace from the prts and the right side just fit a little looser in the rubber hanger in the rear. i took out the cat backs today because i sold them. i took the stock pipes i had from my other car and made some down turns just past the h pipe and now i have straight pipes. the vibration went away and all is smooth. now i have to get a new set of bullets because the straight pipes only sound good at wot. they are loud and obnoxious not a mod i would keep for more than a week. thanks for the help and ideas guys. by the way i did have a flange break at the weld on the h pipe side of my frc a few months ago and i agree it is a weak spot on these cars.
