Default P0332 & high engine temp

On the way home from being in a parade today, the check engine light came on. I then noticed the engine temp gauge was 3/4 toward the red zone. Was only 1/4 mile from home so drove it into the garage and checked the codes. Among others, P0332 current and history showed in the PCM. It's supposed to be 90*F today and was running slow with the QTP's wide open to show off. Haven't yet checked coolant level as it's still pretty hot, but checked and topped it off last week.

Are these 2 events related or just coincidence? Figured I'd start with coolant when it cools, clear the codes and restart.

Any thoughts???
Dan

Update: Coolant level was full and warm. After clearing codes and starting, there was coolant circulation. Fans came on at the right temp (180*F). Coolant temp began going down right after fans came on. Check engine light remains off (for now).

Still looking for answers...

Sounds like the system should work OK. Have you checked the radiator to make sure there isn't stuff blocking the air flow? These cars pick up crap like you wouldn't believe.

VN,
I've got a piece of plastic 1/2" screening to keep all the crap out of there. It does pick up some debris but usually deposits it in a nice little pile in the garage when the fans turn off. It didn't look like much, not like the amount that I'd figure would be necessary to clog the airflow, but don't know for sure.

In regards to the 'Check Engine' light, after clearing the codes and running the engine for a few minutes to get the temp up, no codes showed. The P0332 seems to have fixed itself. Can a rear knock sensor fix itself???

It might have been a CAT overtemp, not sure what that code is.

No, the code was for the rear knock sensor, which apparently fixed itself. Took it for a ride up I-95 yesterday, really varying speed and RPM's. Watched the coolant temp the entire time, which never got above 200*F. Checked the codes when I finally returned home and there were no codes...amazing. I must have the only self healing knock sensor that GM made. Oh well, I'm happy.

:bb Spoke too soon, took it out again this morning, really spirited driving and the 'check engine' light came back on Looks like I'll be pulling the S/C off again real soon. BTW temps stayed in the normal operating range...guess I had 2 things happening independently.
