Dynatech Long Tube Headers Price Decrease!
If you look at the picture at the top of this thread, you will notice the components of the supermaxx. The entire C5 exhaust has the following components, starting at the engine and ending at the rear bumper: 1. Headers (these connect to the exhaust ports on each side of the engine cylinder heads)
2. Catalytic Converters (used to recombine Carbon Monoxide to lower harmful emmisions to the environment)
3. X-pipe (this permits the exhaust gases from both sides of the engine to equalize pressure, the result is a smoother engine, more efficient and the reduction or elimination of "popping / gurgling" on deceleration)
4. Intermediate tubes (these tubes are straight 'thru - piping' which is used to reach the mufflers.
-----This ends the Supermaxx Long tube 'system' ----------
5. Over the axle pipes (Due to the physical geometry of the C5's undercarriage, the connection to the mufflers, located rearward of the rear axle, permits the exhaust system to be connected to the mufflers)
6. Mufflers (Used to reduce noise level of the engine, and as stated above, are tucked under the rear bumper, and due to heat, is why the C5 has 2 'vent slots' located on each side of the rear bumper)
7. Exhaust Tips (These come in various configurations from oval quad tip, to dual tip to GTR, ther must be 5 or 6 after-market styles. The tips are what you see when you look at the rearend exhaust of the C5.
Now with all of that identified, all aftermarket "Cat-Back" exhaust systems, comprise of the 'over the axle pipes, mufflers and exhaust tips'. Most aftermarket header systems, which are intended for street use, contain catalytic converters. These 'street systems' all mate up to any aftermarket 'Cat-Back' system. There are minor variances between all header and cat-back systems, but I have yet to come across 2 aftermarket exhaust systems which do not connect.
I hope this explanation helps.
ps hey Tbryne, do I get a t-shirt for this??
