Changed my oil in my 01 FRC A4 (45K miles) with Mobil 1 10w-30 for Florida. I use a little oil (consumption issue abt 1qt per 1K) so I decided to try some oil viscosity treatment (STP) to help with the piston ring blow by. Now my pressure runs about 50 on start-up and 70 at about 3000 rpms. Is this too high? Used to run about 40 and I know adding the STP with the tight clearances in the oil pump but wondering if the pressure is too high. I don't race it but do occasionally get on it when I can. Appreciate any feedback.....
The oil pressure does not sound too high. I think this is the upper limit, any higher pressures you may start blowing seals and develop leaks.
As far as mixing STP and Synthetic oil, do you know if they are compatable? I remember a lesson from a seasoned service engineer. He showed us pups what would happen if you mixed al little STP with turbine oil, it turned into a ball of goo. (technical term). Make sure you don't have a ball of goo in your system find out if the two are compatable.
Both Mobil and AMSOIL do not recommend adding any additives to their oils. I suggest you try an oil with a little higher viscosity before using any additives. Although only 30 grade oils meet GM Standard 4718M, I personally think the AMSOIL Synthetic 5w40 European Motor Oil is a better choice for the LSx motors, especially those being used in climates such as yours.
From what I read on the bottle it said that it is compatable with all synthetic oils. I think that I will probably drain and refill with AMSOIL maybe. I have read a lot about it and this might be a good time to try it.
The owners manual explicitly recommends that oil additives not be used, likely because of the tight clearances. The pressures you are seeing seem slightly high.

Wonder what they mean by "compatible"? Whatever they mean, I'm aware of no synthetic oil manufacturer that recommends using aftermarket additives with their oils.
