Default X Pipe for Power

Sorry if this has been asked before (did a search couldn't find anything) but I was thinking about going to LT header high flow cats and X pipe set up, but have heard that the factory headers and cats flow good. My big concern with the LT headers is the underhood heat. So I was thinking if the stock exhaust flows well, would you get any HP gains from an after market X Pipe only? I currently have a Z06 cat back exhaust. If anyone has any experience with this I would would like to know what kind of gains you got (even if minimal) and what X pipe would be best. Also would you need a tune if you added this only.

Thanks a bunch

I suppose to some extent an X-Pipe midsection is designed to flow a little better than the factory H-Pipe - but in reality... it's just a straight pipe pretty much... there isn't a whole lot flow wise you can do except make it bigger.. lol That said - if you get an offroad x-pipe deleting the cats will probably pickup some more horesepower due to the increased flow w/o cats... but how much i can't say...

Honestly, i'd say you'd be lucky to see 5hp from this but thats just my opinion - i don't have any first hand experience. That said, the factory manifold may flow good, but a nice set of headers will flow great - hence the 25 to 45hp increase!

From what i understand the mid section - specifically the X-Pipe was designed to equalize pressure between the pipes some, and reduce a lot of the popping gurgling effect you can get with headers.

I just ordered a set of Dynatech Supermaxx headers w/ high flow cats. This seems like a very complete system, easy to install and will see gains of 20-25hp w/o a tune and 40-45 after one. There is a group purchase right now for these which I think is a good deal and we're already almost half way to the magic 15 orders in only a couple days... i'd check it out if you're interested.

Read through this thread - you'll see the discussion and finally the group purchase price...

Thanks for the reply, Your thoughts are the same as mine (without the headers the X pipe really won't matter). I really want to do the headers, but I don't want the extra heat under the hood from them. I have heard that even with the coating there is a BIG differnece in heat when you go to the headers?

Thanks Again
