Default My Trans!

Well, i just bought a 2002 Red C5 on July 23rd and could not be any happier. The car is mint, and only had 13,900 miles on it and it is also an A4. I love it. Anyways, i dont really race it that hard and mostly drive it at speed limit speeds. But, I was driving yesterday and i noticed that going into 2nd gear and out of 2nd gear is having HUGE problems and it is revving at about 3700 RPMs before it shifts!! My dealership i bought it from gave me a 30 day warranty, so i brought it in and then they drove it down the street to a chevy dealership (i got it from a honda dealership, i know but i got a good deal, haha). Anyways, is 2nd gear shot or what do you guys think? Hopefully it is covered under warranty because i dont feel like paying for a new transmission. Any thoughts?

Maybe some used a haldheld programmer or had the computer tuned for higher shift points. Has it always done it? Or does it do it under higher throttle?

Yep, me too. Let us know what is up. Looks like the Honda dealership is looking at a $3200.00 bill. Make sure the WHOLE trans is replaced and they don't do a band-aid fix by replacing the cluth-paks or the bands only...

Thanks for the responses guys. The honda dealership was notified that it would be a 580$ charge just to diagnose the problems of 5 hours of work or something like that. Honda called me and told me if Chevy finds that there is any kinda of evidence that the car was abused then the bill is on me. I told them to stick it, and that I didn't abuse the car and its all BS. Well, they are breaking it down on monday hopefully the bill goes to honda.

The problem you are having could be a part called the TCC module. One way to check this is to get the car going about 55 mph on level road so you are cruising with only slight pressure on the gas pedal. While cruising, very lightly touch the brake pedal with your left foot while watching the tach. If the rpms suddenly rise the module is probably okay, but if nothing happens the module probably needs to be replaced. There would also be a code of P1870. The module is easy to replace. It is accessible by dropping the pan and removing the filter and then you can get to it through all the exposed mess. There also is another module that controls the 1-2 shift which is accessible at the same time. If you can do your own mechanical work, these are parts you can change yourself. It's just messy removing the trans pan. Alot cheaper than rebuilding the whole trans. If you can't do it yourself, before I would let the dealer rip me off, I'd find a good trans shop to diagnose your problem first with a legitimate response.

Default 4l60e woes...

Depending on whether or not you have some decent mods, probably burned 3/4 clutches. Been there, done that, about 4 times now. IF, when you shift at WOT, it hits the rev liniter going from 2nd to 3rd, then my money's on the burned clutch pack.
Make sure you get a level 4 or 5 tranny this time around and put 9 alto reds in it. Really helps it last.
The 4l65 has one more clutch than the 4l60e, but they're too expensive to buy outright...so have a tuner...not a dealer, a *performance vendor* rebuiild your tranny. What ever you do, if you have any mods or intentions of getting mods, DON'T use a regular tranny repair shop! YOU will get burned worse than your clutch pack is, IMO. Been there, done that also.

I think most level 5 trannys are around $2600 with exchange, or you can drop down a level or two to save some money, if you're not gonna do any abusive throttling. Good luck!

Well right now i am hoping the honda dealership just covers it because like i said there should be no signs of abuse because i didn't abuse the car at all. If for some reason the honda dealership doesn't cover it, than i am going to get a performance shop probably FLT to rebuild it with a much higher level. But, right now the car is stock, and this problem just occured so there hasn't been any handheld programmer on it. I just got my loudmouth in, and is waiting to be put on, and my black Z06 rims should be here on wednesday, so i have some parts on the way i can't wait to get on. I just hope the transmission is covered.
