I took my 99 coupe to the local 1/8 mile track for the second time last night. I am not a very experienced racer, think i have made 5 passes in all.My second run of the night i spun my tires just enough to clean them off, and staged. When i launched i was around 2k RPM's and i usually just ease off on the clutch, but for some stupid reason i dump the clutch. I came out fine but when i get ready to shift to second i notice my clutch is completely flat on the floor. I then let off the gas and get the car in second. The clutch pedal eventually comes back up. I could smell the clutch, but it never actually felt like it was slipping. Can someone please tell me what was going on.
You temporarily overheated it causing the pedal to the floor thing. I had that happen the month I bought my car and it lasted till I changed it. It was still working fine. Don't let it rev so much while engaging it.
I've read that old and dirty fluid can cause this so that will be my first course of action. I've never had any problems with it prior to this incident. Just scared me a little i guess. I have no problem doing motor work, but when it comes to transmissions and other drivetrain items i am clueless.
I didn't speed shift. Only thing i can think of is maybe a combination of dirty fluid and overheating it spinning my tires in the burnout box and on launch since i dumped it
