Default Help...my car got fixed, now its broken!

You may have seen my earlier post about my car...
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1439454

Long story short, I got the Ford dealer I got my car from to get it fixed by their local chevy dealer.
Right now Im getting pretty ticked at them because not only will they not cough up the original chevy invoice so I can see what was done and how much it really cost, but they also wont cough up a copy of the warranty details...I give my sales guy a few days, then we do certified mail to the manager, then we go off to the BBB...but thats neither here nor there...

I drove the car home from picking it up and it seemed OK. Maybe a bit more noise shifting then before, but I figured it was just me being paranoid, or after having the rear and trans out, maybe everything just needed to settle in....

So that was a week ago. Today I got back into the car for the first time. Went to shift into reverse, got a nasty grinding noise. Took me a few times to get reverse engaged. OK, car has been sitting for a week. Fine. So I drive around town for a bit. First, every time I shift I hear a slipping noise, sounds almost like a clutch issue, hard to describe. Its any time I shift. OK, that's not good. So now Im paying close attention. I then realized the second bad thing. First gear is not happening. Car just wont shift into gear. I push it hard enough, but not going to force it. So I drive around town starting out in second for a half hour, finally first gear decides to work. Im going to take another drive later and see what happens...

Do you guys have any thoughts about this? I know that the dealer is going to give me the usual "it was fine when it left here" or "our repairs couldnt have caused that" but my question first is what the heck do you guys think this could be?
Bear in mind that they told me that they had the rear and trans out and replaced a bunch of seals in the trans...

Help? Brain power unite for me!

Seems to be a shifter, clutch, slave, tranny problem. Maybe all of them. The only solution is to get it fixed.

Good Luck!

That was my first thought. Does this car have an aftermarket shifter? If so, (and it's a Hurst) check the shifter stop screw adjustments.

The car has an 06 Z06 shifter....its had this for a while now, the problems started only after the dealer worked on the car....

Think that could be something though?

How can I check the rest of the clutch, etc? Should I call my local chevy dealer and have them check everything over? I just think if I go back and forth with the guys that did the repair Ill get nowhere....

First give them a chance to fix it. They will probably just take it back to the Chevy dealer that was contracted to fix it. The FORD dealer shouldn't care since the Chevy dealer is responsible for messing it up and should have at least 30 day warranty on repair work. See what happens before you have to get nasty with them. If all else fails see if your state has any protection on used car sales.

If during the tranny uninstall/install they removed the shifter, they may have not installed it quite the same way as before. You should check the stops first and make sure it's not just an easy adjustment problem.

This may be a non-issue, but I had a 5-speed tranny replaced in a car once. I drove it home and 5th gear stopped working. After sitting in the drive overnight, I had a terrible time getting it in to neutral. Found out that the garage forgot to fill the gear box with oil. I drove around with NO oil in the gear box for 4 or 5 hours. It completely destroyed the tranny. The garage had to replaced the tranny (this was not a Corvette but the story seemed to apply).

Thanks for all of the advice. I've sent a note off to the guy Ive been dealing with, a little bit stronger then before. Ive asked him for copies of the chevy invoice along with the details of their warranty as well as mentioning the problems that cropped up and the need to get them resolved. Ill give it a few days, then the next is a written certified letter to the manager of the dealership. This will mention notifying the BBB. This can often get some attention.
After that, time to find an atty I think...

I just wish I knew what the problem was..but I do know it got worse after they worked on it!

Im definitely all for giving them the benefit of the doubt and going through the process....still stinks though!

I don't know what your problem is but I'd be willing to bet they forgot to fill the tranny up with fluid either that or they didn't put enough in.

Why not go to the Chevy dealer and have them run the serial number to see what repairs have been done at dealerships over the lifetime of the car?
