I'm pretty sure I saw a post awhile back that somone installed a c6 shift **** on a hurst shifter. Now I know you can buy the ones on ebay that have a plastic insert threaded for a c5, but I want to do it right and drill my shifter for the set screw like a stock c6. Just wondering if anyone has done this and can lend some insight? Thanks
Jeff, the C6 shifter shaft is a few thousandths larger in diameter than the C5/Hurst. Ergo, the C6 **** will be a sloppy fit. You will either have to modify the C6 **** to reduce it's inside diameter, wrap your C5 shaft somehow to increase it's diameter, buy the modified **** from Ebay, and option 4 - buy the C6 shifter.
The C6 shifter shaft also has two flats machined into the tip that prevent the **** from rotating. The screw is primarily for vertical security. And drilling & tapping the shifter while it's in the car, while possible, may not be as easy as it appears.
Hey Vince,
I appreciate the advice. It appears I may need to bite the bullet and go for a c6z06 shifter. I really did like the centering feature of the hurst though as I bang the gears really hard (probably too hard..). Thanks again
Phil, unless you've abused the hell out of your C5 shifter, the C6 isn't going to feel better. Except that it's an inch shorter and bent back a little, it's the same mechanism.
