I put different tires on my car and am going w/the pressure warnings, the reccomended psi on these tires are 50psi and the monitoring system displays a warning over 42 I think... so it shows high psi display 4 times, every 20min. or so, reallllllllly pissing me off, anyway to fool the sensors into thinking 50psi is really 40psi???
The tire pressure specifications on the side of the tire refer to the maximum inflation pressure the tire can handle in relation to its maximum load carrying capacity. If you continue to run your tires at this pressure you will wear out the center of the tires in nothing flat. You need to refer to the tire pressures recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, not the "maximum" inflation pressure branded on the tire's sidewall. For the C5, the vehicle manufacturer's pressure recommendation can be found on the vehicle's tire loading label on the rear edge of the driver's door and your owner's manual. The vehicle manufacturer's pressure recommendations are just that - recommendations - and you should monitor your tires for wear and adjust their pressure accordingly. Too much pressure will cause the center of the tire to wear more quickly and too little pressure the sides more quickly. You should be able to find any number of threads on this topic by doing a search on tire Pressure in both C5 Tech and C5 General. Also see the link below:
Geez, that sidewall PSI, as mentioned above, is a maximum, never exceed limit. Above that pressure, there is no guarantee your tire will stay on the rim. Nothing anywhere, on the tire, in writing, or on the web, suggests you run that pressure. I bet once your tires heated up, you were running 55psi!! It's like running your engine at 6000 rpm all the time, because that's where the redline is.
C5 tire pressure is 30psi, cold. Start there and adjust in small increments if you run into handling issues or abnormal tire wear patterns. I currently run 30psi front/ 28psi rear because the rears were wearing in the center at 30 psi.
