Anyone ever have this problem? I recently charged my system with 12ozs of freon. After the charge, the air is blowing cold, but I noticed that the compressor won't cycle. It stays on all the time.
Not sure what causes this, but a friend with A/C knowledge says the hi/low side pressures are within spec according to his gauges.
I've tried fresh and recirc modes, different temps, to no avail. The compressor just keeps running.
Any ideas? I've heard of compressors not running, or cycling repeatedly, but not this. Help!
Thanks.
I don't have the exact readings for each side.
All I remember about the pressures is that they were within spec for a R134A system.
Why would I keep info and specifics from you guys if I'm trying to solicit your help? No reason to be secretive here....
Any other ideas?
GM uses a low pressure switch on the low side of the refrigeration system to cycle the compressor on and off, there are two ways the compressor will cycle on/off 1) low or no refrigerant in the system 2) the air passing over the evaporator is cold enough to casue the refrigerant pressure to drop below the cut out of the switch, when the air temp rises the refrigerant pressure increases and the switch will close allowing the compressor to start. To test operation pick a cool night < 72 degs F. put the system into manual set climate control setting to 60 degs F. turn fan on to high close windows and let run as the interior get cold the refrigerant pressure will decreas until the pressure control opens. Hope this helps
BY THE WAY FORGOT TO MENTION TO PUT A/C IN RECIRCULATE MODE WHEN DOING THE ABOVE SORRY ABOUT THAT
ok not to highjack the thread but...... you mention you just added refrigerant to the system. did you do this yourself?? i am looking to find out if this can be done with the stuff at the auto parts store. i have done this in the past years ago with the old freon but dont know if its the same as that but with the new stuff??
Yes, I did it myself using store bought freon. It's the same deal as with the old stuff, maybe even easier than that.
After recharging the freon, I started to notice the issue with the compressor.
I'll have to try some of the suggestions mentioned...
