The drain is on the passenger side of the transmission, down low, and a few inches behind the fill plug. My tranny sometimes didn't want to go into first or second, but after replacing the fluid with Mobil 1, it shifts much better. I think the manual had the capacity listed as "capacity -5 quarts ---overhaul " but I only was able to replace about 3 quarts. You will need a pump to get the fluid into the fill hole.

I changed mine recently and it took a little over 3.5 quarts. I used Amsoil synthetic ATF.

Drain plug is on the bottom, rear passenger side corner. Fill plug is about halfway up and forward on the driver's side where the tranny temp probe plugs in. Capacity is 3.7 quarts.

To properly change the fluid in the MN6, it should be flushed. This will take about 12 quarts... and the proper flush machine. If you live near a dealer you can TRUST, let them do it. It will be a much better job than a drain and re-fill at home.

You don't want to put any additive in the transmission.

I was told you can not FLUSH a Manual Transmission you only flush autos.. is this incorrect? And if someone said they are flushing your manual transmission with a machine there are full of ..

Expert pls.. advice.

97 service manual says:

MN6 capacity is 3.75 quarts

It says the A4 requires 12 quarts for a flush.

You dont flush a MN6..you simply remove the drain plug and let it drain. You refill until it flows out of the fill hole...should be about 3.5 quarts...

Of course you have to be level for it to properly drain...

For a manual tranny you'll only be able to get a little over 3.5 quarts drained and refill. The above member who stated 12 quarts is wrong regarding MN6. He must have the MN6 and autos confused.

I thought that's what you were talking about above. Again, Amsoil has the additive in it. It's called Amsoil Severe Gear.

The MN6 is the manual six speed gearbox in the C5 Corvette (M12 is the designation for the C5 Z06). Both only take 3.7 quarts of automatic transmission fluid labed to meet GM Dexron III specifications. No flush is required on a C5 manual gearbox.

Since it was mentioned, the differential takes 1.7 quarts of synthetic 75w90 gear lube with 4 oz of friction modifier. As a note, many differential fluids come with the friction modifier in them and adding extra is not normally needed.

The two applicable AMSOIL products:
Manual and Automatic Transmission on C5s: AMSOIL ATF
Differential Fluid on C5s: AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (comes with friction modifier in it)

Thank you Brad (subdriver) for stepping up and clearing up the misinfo... guys if you aren't 100% sure what you're talking about in a tech forum please don't respond, spreading mininfo is not a good thing.

I run full Amsoil fluids in my car, great stuff!
