F45 Shock Owners
How many miles before you replaced your shocks, and which brand did you buy (Monroe or Delphi)?
I prefer to stay with RPO-F45 or RPO-55, rather than ditch the system.
And, has anyone upgraded an F45 to the F55?
Thanks.

Good question!
I've also got the F45 option w/ 46K miles, but they still seem okay for now.

Try a search. Many have gone to F55 from F45. Just need to disable the sensors to as not to get error code.

I did Fred, and I came up with threads like these:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1115321
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1109048
Which is why I decided to post this one again.
Maybe you can help steer me to some threads that actually have a discussion on the actual differences?
Thank you.

EHS,
Not much help. I just remember several threads, but, heaven knows when I saw them. Sorry. Will convert my F45 one day too. Try this thread.

I just replaced my F45 shocks. They had 58k miles and the right rear didn't work at all. The left rear barely extended out. The fronts worked relatively well I think.
I replaced three of the four with a used set (4k miles) of F45's from a forum member. I haven't had a chance to test them out yet...I'm doing other work on the vette at the same time.

what's the cost of the upgrade to F55?
and....what Chevy dealer can obtain that upgrade?
and...what's involved with installation?
any help would be appreciated.....I like the looks of the C5 so much more than C6, I will likely keep my Y2K coupe.
Perhaps upgrade to the new 6 speed auto in a year.

You can order the F55 upgrade components from any Chevy dealer. Cost is about $2,200 - 2,300 and includes a new BCM in addition to the shocks.
The F45 replacment shocks run about $1,800 - $1,900 and don't include the BCM.
Installation labor is extra.
The $500 price difference is one of the reasons I posted this thread -- is it worth it.
I have also found Monroe brand F45 shocks on the internet for about $1,400 (set of four). I believe the dealers sell the Delphi brnad.
Another reason I asked the question.
Thanks for stopping in.

There is an outfit that rebuilds F45 shocks for a very reasonable price. I'll try to find the link.

I also would like the link. I have two F55's that went bad at 40k miles.
I like the F55 but really can't compare to F45.

Disable the control module and replace with Bilstein HD's. Not as stiff as the Sports and much cheaper.

Attention F45 Selective Real Time Damping, Electronic Suspension C5 Owners For those of you who may be out of your warranty period and develop a leak/problem with one of your $400/piece (new) Bilstein C5 shocks, we have learned that Bilstein (German manufacturer) has a refurbishing center in San Diego, CA. The information we have is that they can rebuild your existing shocks for approximately $100/piece. You can reach them at (619) 453-7723. While this information may not be important to you right now, it will certainly be helpful down the road if problems develop.
