The top on my '00 vert is of the tan variety and I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to spray it with 3M Scothguard. Has anyone tried this before, would it hurt or help, will it stain it at all?

I would recommend Aerospace 303 fabric protectant. It is critical that your top be thoroughly dry before applying. I did 2 applications, a week apart, on my vert over a year ago and it still beads like the rest of the car.

The 3M Scotchguard likely won't hurt anything, but it does not offer any UV protection like those products made especially for convertible tops such as RaggTopp or the 303 Cleaner and Protector. Many people here use these two products with good results. I personally prefer the RaggTopp cleaner and protectant. Both the RaggTopp and the 303 cleaner are for use on either fabric or vinyl tops. However, each brand has two different protectants, one for fabric and another for vinyl. Several Forum supporting vendors carry these products.

Too, the Car Care Discussion section of the Forum is the best place to go for all your questions on this topic and you should find lots more info on both these products there.

Good luck!

Take a look at my location my friend, something tells me that my local Crappy Tire store will not stock Aerospace 303. I suppose I could check but I doubt it. If however 3M works just as well and does the same thing and you say it's a good idea I will make it so. Thank you, you too GrayC5!

Again, the thing you need to consider is that both the RaggTopp and 303 contain UV protectants which the 3M Scotchguard does not. I personally would only use those products that contain a UV protectant. Both the RaggTopp and 303 can be mail ordered. If you post in the Car Care Discussion section or the Canadian Events section of the Forum, I feel quite certain that someone there can help you find these products or lead you to someone who will ship to your area.

Good luck.
