The Powerloader II is made by Steve Cole at TTS. It re-programs the PCM to optimize what your engine can do, vs. what GM wants the engine to do for the masses. It's literally a 5 minute install that a 5th grader can do. Just plug it in (under the steering wheel) and let it do its work.
It seems to be best for the A4. I haven't heard as many positive comments from M6 users vs. A4 users. When I installed mine (A4), I gained 9 h.p. to the rear wheel (documented by BPP dyno at the Cuise-In over Memorial Day), but what I love most about it is the increased responsiveness and shift points in the tranny. It really WAKES up the car! Even with light acceleration, each shift throws me back in the seat a bit. I love it! :D
Cost is around $450+, but best to check with RG or MattG at Exit 28 MotorSports. Not sure if they are still offering their GP price they had earlier in the year.
Hope this helps a bit.
The Powerloader is most assuredly the best reprogramming box around but because of this, the wait time is uncertain. Second best is the Superchips unit and a distant third is the Hypertech ( often referred to as the Hypercrap) We offer the Powerlaoader for $449 and the Superchips Microtuner at $349 in the Forum Mall. Check it out under the Vendor Listings A&A Corvette Specialties. (Formerly A&A Engines)
IMHO,
I have the hypercrap and powerloader and found them both to be junk. Maybe for a failrly stock Corvette with a auto trannie they mght be OK but if stock who needs them anyways.
I have looked at C5s usig that superchip and found that to be as bad as what i saw with their e-proms for C4s.
The best guy to go to is Ron Zimmer of Z-Industries.
Ron has been doing Corvette coding since the early 1990s and most of the major vette performance shops use him
you can reach him at Telephone 714-779-6680
Be sure to tell him what mods you have and type of driving style you prefer the car to be set up.
He does 3 versions, one will pass CARB, one a bit stronger and oe for ***** out performance and his pricing is cheaper then the others.
