Default 180 or 160 Thermo

So my temp. in this Texas heat is hitting about 225-230 in the city and 219 on the highway so I have decided to upgrade to the thermo. It seems two are offered, the 160 and 180 degree thermos. Which should I go for? My coupe is practically stock mechanically with the exception of dumped exhaust. Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks guys!

160 with fans programed to come on and off sooner..IMHO also check your radiator for debris it may need cleaning...

Ya, don't bother. The fans are the key, not the thermostat. The high speed fan does not come on until 235, so your ranges are completely normal. A 160 degree thermostat without fan re-programming will only get you maybe 15 minutes of lower operating temps, after that its up to the fans. Cleaning you radiator is a lot better idea then changing the thermostat. If you would go over 240 for long periods or overheated or never got up to a good temp, then a thermostat may be the issue, but still not real common.

I realize the original poster does not, but for those that DO.....if ya got an '04, forget changing the stat as the WP housing is completely different than all the previous years and these aftermarket stats simply will NOT fit.

And I agree, change the fan settings and leave the rest up to God, chance and evolution.

The t-stats for the 05 fits the 04, and it does not come with new housing as you don't need it.

Really? So all I would have to do is pull the old stat FROM the housing and replace it with another?

And are there various settings of stats available? Have a particular souce in mind....to save me from searching around? (yeah, I know, I'm lazy).

Well, thanks!....that's good news. I'm looking for a 180 degree, but at least now I know there is SOMETHING available, for the '04's.
