Default 04 MAF screen

Just curios to know if anyone out there with an 01 -04 pulled the screen off their MAF and what the results were. I’m not looking for pros and cons if you don’t mind, just someone who’s actually done it. I took the screen off my 99 HT with good results but not sure what it would do for (to) our 04 auto. Anyone? Thanks. – C.

I have read on the later years it will result in surging. I have not found it to be an impediment to making power, and you really need it if you decide to go with the Callaway Honker CAI because the MAF is moved to right in front of the TB.

On my '04Z (no screen stock), no problems when stock. Put on Vararam and I got idle hunt/surge. Put on TT kit and still get idle hunt/surge (and some lean trim codes which also sound like is a problem w/ the no screen MAF when you change intakes). I've considered trying an earlier MAF w/ a screen to see if it goes away, but I'll wait to see if my dyno tune can resolve it.

I have just pushed the screen out, carefully mind you. I have done it with stock air boxes and with others, no such problems here.
It is a big restriction with the air flow.
