I have some small scratches that I need to fix. I bought some Dupont #7 pollishing compond and noted that the directions stated "not for use on clear coats" They have a special polishing compound for clear coats. My glove box only has one paint code - U423G. I would imagine if it had a clear coat that would also be listed??

From my understanding it does not have tint in the clear coat. It is a 3 stage paint prossess. Base coat, tint coat, and clear coat. A 2 step process like most other colors would be a base coat and clear coat.
MY has a tint base coat, a color coat, and a standard clear coat.
From the factory, there is no tint in the clear. It got the same clear every other car and color got. This is straight from GM documentation.
However, the aftermerket paint systems all attempt to duplicate this color in a 2 stage bc/cc process, and a trick I've heard that aids in color-matching is to mix a slight bit of yellow into the final cleacoat. This is not the way it was originally done though.
Why does my glove box only have 1 paint code - U423G, which I believe is the clear coat? Shouldn't there be 2 or 3 codes?
The GM paint cose for MY is WA-423G. Anyone who looks that spec up through a paint manufacturer will get a list of all the materials needed to match the Millenium Yellow paint color.
They don't issue a paint code for each individual coat...that is the paint code so the color can be identified and matched later on. As stated above, all GM cars in the past 20 or so years use base coat/clearcoat paint systems. There is no paint code for clear...clear is clear, and an essential part of the process.

Just one code, that is for mil yellow. The top coat on mine seems to be just a standard clear. Someone recently posted a website that gives all the paint codes for corvettes.
I have had good luck on using meguiars fine cut cleaner #2 for scratches, followed up with a good wax.
