Default Jacking Question For Newbie

Hi all. I'm a new 2002 coupe owner and I will eventually jack the vehicle for brakes and oil changes. Hopefully that is all I'll need it for.

I did a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for.

Forget ramps and hydraulic lifts. What do you use that it efficient and effective? The car has not been lowered.

I'm thinking a 2 or 5 ton hydraulic jack with 4 jack stands (how tall??)
Thanks Alan

Can someone answer a question for me with a simple YES or NO?

I want to paint my calipers, while they are STILL attached to the car. All I want to do is:

Remove the wheels

Paint the Calipers while they are still on the car. (ive been inspired by FINE99)

NOW.. my question is.

Can I just stick my hydraulic jack under the REAR or FRONT side rail and jack the car up?

THEN take off the wheels, one at a time and paint them?

Jacking up the WHOLE car on stands seems a tad overkill for what I want to do.

I have ONE hydraulic jack.. and thassit

I painted my calipers on the car, jacked up all 4 wheels. I am glad I did, it took 4 coats with a brush. I just kept going around car.

NO.
Unless you use the proper jackpad and lift the car at the appropriate location. Hope this isn't too long an answer for you.

I've read your write-up several times, and need to ask a question to confirm something: The 'spanning' wood pads you created for the front and back (look like wide U's) - is the wood strong enough in the center? It would seem like the open area above could be prone to collapse.

I really want to build these, but seeing as were talking about supporting a lot of weight, I wanted to hear any assurances that you see no buckling or flexing.

Oh yeah, these would be a great addition to the EG wood ramps I built this weekend!
