Default Clutch LS6 vs Textrillia

Hey all. I thought I had the new clutch I was having installed figured out, but wanted to run it by the collective to feel good about it.

My car will be roughly 425 at the rear wheels and I'm having to make a clutch choice. I have 3.90's for gears.. Basically the folks doing the switch have had a lot of LS7 clutch setups come back in and they're not recommending it so I have a choice between the Textrilla and the LS6. I was a little worried about the LS6 with the HP, but was hoping someone could put me at ease. The Textrilla is a few hundred bucks more, but I was worried about chatter and that it wouldn't be as smooth as the stocker.. (this is a DD car)

It's mostly just a street car with a few 3 or 4 trips to the track a year..

Currently I have a '00 so the clutch has to be changed. It'll fry out at the new HP..

What does the collective think?
Textriallia or is the LS6 fine?

I am a little behind you in the change, but was leaning towards the LS7. Based on the recent threads, I am now leaning towards the Textralia clutch. I have the Z06 now, but am planning ahead.

I went through 2 ZO6 clutches in 46k miles. I've got 600 miles on my new motor/Textralia clutch and It's holding great with 450+rwhp, even ater hitting the track hot lapping for the motor break-in

How is the day to day drivability on the Tex clutch? Anywhere near the LS6? Are you able to slip it a bit in traffic or is it either on or off like I heard?

You'll fry the "LS6" too. I really dont know why people refer to it as the "LS6", just because the Z was introduced that year. The "LS6" clutch is the stock clutch used on all 01+ C5's and 01-02 F-bodies. It's really not much of an upgrade over what you have now. I know many people that have toasted them. It's a poor designed pressure plate.

If your considering the Tex.. then go for it. DONT BUY A SPEC!

I believe with the Tex clutch you have a choice of flywheels. You don't need to go with a light weight one - as the heavier ones have more driveability. The Tex clutch is rated for much more hp than the LS6. It would be my choice.

Unfortunately, after saying all this, I am having an LS7 clutch installed as we speak. My guy thinks stock type clutches are able to take the constant slipping of day to day street driving. Just hoping I'm one of the lucky ones when it comes to LS7 (pedal down) problems.... I am having the slave replaced to hopefully improve my bet. If I had 100% say so, my choice would have been the Tex with a hollow steel flywheel.

I'm only gonna make probably 390 rwhp with my new setup. Really mild mods, but very streetable and resaleable. It's plenty for me as I only plan to punch it occassionally for my enjoyment and race only once just to get the time slip. Not sure how much to believe of the hype you read here - one fella recently was complaining about the LS7 clutch... as I read further he had over 30 race launches and he drops the hammer each time north of 3500 rpm. Can you imagine a test drive? He tell's the salesman he wants to launch the car, so he rev's to 4,500 rpm and let's the gas 'n clutch fly - impressed with the performance and the fact the parts held together, he tells the salesman he wants to do it again (30 more times). His cluch is still working fine, but he's disappointed it may be showing signs of wear! You can't please all of the people all the time. I think the LS7 will work well for me.

Time will tell how the LS7 ultimately works out. If you see me pulled over to the side of the road with my hood up - at least wave. Suggest you talk to some of the guys who specialize on vettes and have to warranty what they install - that's the opinions I would value more than the guys here who can only talk about what they have and tend to rave about their brillance (Andy @ A&A, Rick @ Synergy, LAPD, etc).
