Had car taken apart today and found out my pressure plate was broken do to a poor install. The car has 505 RWHP and will see allot of time at the drag strip. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about a Textraila, but have heard quite a few people that are dissatisfied w/ the spec. Please tell me about your experience w/ the Spec 3+, or Textraila. What ever clutch I choose will take a beating.
I would go with the Textrailia, I have heard of too many Spec clutches blowing apart and causing major damage.
I just helped jeffs frc install his Textrailia over the weekend and he seems to like it. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1465008
Its funny you ask this very question, my buddy has an '01 Z and he and I both had clutch issues at the same time and we went round and round with what clutch to use, we had our choices narrowed down to the same as yours, we flipped a coin and he went SPEC and I went Textraila.
Let me tell you, I'm glad I got tails....... His clutch SUCKS !
The only concern I had was that Textraila doesn't mention the amount of horse power or torque the clutch is good for. I've been hearing good things about it and will probably go this rout.
The spec 3+ clutch is different than the older ones. I have a spec 3+ and works perfect. Its sticky very on/off but grabs really hard. Doesnt chatter either.
From my experience with clutches most problems are due to either bad installations or a bad break in procedure. I never had a problem with any clutch.
love my tex I hot lapped it, ran on ET St radials, 5.5k launches, no issues. Now with bias ply et streets, 12 psi, hard launches, still. no issues. Realy holds up well and takes the use. Very stockish feal too as far as pressure imo.

ChiefDave... Are you able to slip the Tex a little bit in daily driving or is it an on/off deal?????

How many have you heard of blowing apart? I talked to them yesterday and they only know of two and you should get the full story on those or at least hear their side as well.

Could you explain what sucks about his clutch compaired to yours? They both seem like good clutches so whats the differance's between the two that you like and don't like? It's good that you have access to both maybe you can help shed some light on the plusses and minuses of them both.
The Spec 3+ is rated for over 800hp at the crank, not sure about the Tex. This may make the Spec a little harsher?
The guy that works on my car will NOT install a Spec 3 clutch.. Period. Depending on the HP unless you are getting into some big #'s on HP he recommends the LS7 clutch. otherwise the TEX!! is the way to go..

I've driven his car and you can't drive it without the whole rear suspension feeling and sounding like its about to be in pieces from all the chatter, he has tried every variation of driving to try to overcome this with no success, it does grab but thats all it does (off/on), the pedal pressure is more than my TEX and the release is lower, the SPEC would be great for nothing but 1/4 mile but he drives his car everyday and so do I, I'm happy I'm not the one stuck with the SPEC all the drivability issues would make me crazy..
I have a Spec 3 and aluminum flywheel. I had an issue when new but the installer took care of it and it's been flawless since. It's seen 6800-6900rpm's many times and no problems. Also, mine doesn't squeal, but it chatters if I don't have enough revs when I let it out and have to put more foot into it than I should. I can back it out of my garage without my foot on the gas, just idling.
i am not one of the 1/4 mile guys
i take the car to a road corse from time to time
and so far the clutch feals as close to my stock zo6 set-up as you could get
i have a twin turbo setup on now and i have pushed it as hard as i can without the ultra hard" drop the clutch "1/4 milers tourcher test
but i have not had it slip yet (kock on wood)
good luck on your pick
also i have removed the small spring from under the dash
( gave me a more positiave feal )
