Thermostat interchangeability
Doe anyone know for sure if it would work, or actually tried using a pre-04 thermostat assembly in an 04? The housings look pretty much like they would interchange.

No pre '04 tstat will fit the '04 water pump housing, as it is narrower than all preceeding years. However, stats from an '05 will fit the '04. I can't say for the 06's and later.

I found this out the hard way!
my H20 pump was replaced before I bought the car...they put in an 04 unit...so when I bought the $50 tstat to fit a 97...it was a no go...luckily I was able to return it for a cheaper 04 stat...they are considerably smaller as well as being independent of the neck where as the older unit is 1 piece.
