Default Swapping in a 6-Speed

I have a 1997 Vette and i was wondering what it's going to take to swap a 6-speed into the car. If anyone has done this or knows of any instructional sites I would greatly appreciate it.

Talk to Gene at Karshop...he can sell you a complete kit. I bought one from Gene and have it in my car. Had a local shop/friend do the work. Not that bad...just a lot of work/hours.

Then you'd need your pcm reprogrammed as a mn6

Although this is going to sound like overkille, unless there are a bunch of things you have done to this car that can't be moved, you'll probably be happier if you sell the A4 and buy a manual 6. While the conversion can be done, you're looking at something well north of two grand and maybe even over three to do the swap.

There are Forced Induction drag racers wanting to go the opposite direction. Try posting over on FI about a swap.

I have a 2000 vert which was an A4 and had it swapped to an MN12 trans from a Z06 in April. I had the whole thing done by RPM transmissions. The Z06 trans was built by rpm and they supplied in addition to the trans the differential, torque tube, race master heavy duty clutch, Z06 shifter, all the pedals and the labor, reflashing the pcm, wiring harness etc. for $2500. The deal also included my old A4 and associated parts. I think I got an outstanding deal from Rodney at RPM.
There are a number of issues to take into consideration especially with the wiring and harness. There are some things associated with the reverse lockout and cruise control.
Mine all works perfect and I have no issues as RPM has to be the most reputable and competent trans shop around. I understand there are some others on the forum who did not have such a good experience with other shops.
I am extremely happy with the switch, enjoy my car even more and was definitely satisifed with the price and quality of work

I also did the A4 to M6 swap using a conversion I bought from Gene @ Karshop. Think about it before you go this route. Lots of stuff to swap - 2 wiring harnessess, clutch, flywheel, pedals, torque tube, tranny, shifter, etc. The labor is pretty involved and should be done by a pro, otherwise you'll have issues. My swap was expensive, about $6K, but that was including a new DTE 3.90 rear diff and before I sold my A4 parts.

I would have sold my mint coupe and bought a Z06, but my wife gave me the new C5 as a gift and I didn't want to sell the greatest gift a woman can give her husband, besides a child!

Good luck, Gordon

You guys make very great points. The car is completely modified, and a lot of engine work has been done. I don't want to get rid of this car even though it is the most sensible thing to do. If the swap cost around 6 grand it might be worth it. What did the kit come with?

Gene supplies everything, but you should buy a new clutch, pressure palte and possibly a flywheel. I think I paid around $2K, including shipping. My local shop did the car for $1500 labor, but it took over 30 days because we had to wait for a few odd parts from GM. Finally the tune and re-program was $500. The DTE diff was just short of $2K.

Call Gene, he's a CF vendor.

I have a complete conversion set from a 98 coupe. Includes torque tube, MN6 tranny, wire harness, pedals, shifter, master/slave, and clutch assembly. In good condition. I was going to swap this setup into my car but changed my mind. The only thing you would need in addition to this kit would be a 3:42 rear end,(or taller) pilot bearing, and have your PCM reflashed. I'm asking $1450. plus shipping.
