Default thermostat question

Hello, I wan't to put a 160 thermostat in my car. Do I need to change the fan temps? Also what would happen if I just removed the thermostat??? I had a older vette I did this to and it ran great.

A lower thermo opens quicker and lets the water flow quicker is will run around the same as it does now. To get the cooler numbers, you need to lower the temp on the fans.

You need to lower the fan temps to get cooler temps in stop and go driving. Above 45 or so the natural air movement through the radiator will cool it.

Default fan switch

I put one of those, adjustable fan switches from summit on my Z, with a 160 stat. I ran a little cooler with just the stat but not that much, the fan switch works great an you can adjust the temp to your likeing, I did not like the temp guage, bounceing of that 220 mark.

hhmmmm a fan switch, how does it work? Do you have to turn the fans on with a switch. I'm located near Ft Lauderdale, does anyone know a tuner in the area that could lower the fan temps? Or is that something I can do?

You can lower the temps with a handheld tuner or have a programmer do it.

If you remove it and drive in the winter the heater may not give out enough heat.

This has been discussed many times in the past if you care to use search. The thermostat controls the temperature at which it opens to the coolant flow, after that the temperature will be what it's going to be...160-180-190 degree will all show the same maximum temperature readings once opened and depending on air flow. The fans programmed to the thermostat change are a must if you expect to see any change.

100% correct, you can't one without the other if you're trying to lower the temps. Just changing the thermo won't do anything unless turn the fan speed up to move the heat. Going too low on the thermostat will only make your car take longer to warm up, and make it also run richer.

The fact is that the cooling system will not support 160 except during cold days.
If you get to 185 with fan change you will be doing well.
