fixin to put in a new waterpump and want to know if anyone has some tips before i get started ....also putting in a new 160stat.........then off for a tune of some kind...97 options are limited...thanks
got it put in...pretty easy...hardest part was cleaning old gasket off
Pretty straight forward, but draining can creat a BIG mess. Especially the hoses on the side to the heater core and the tank. I ended up doubling some aluminum foil and making a channel that went over the spring and steering rack so the coolant would dump into a bag pan. Didn't do this the first time, and spent several uneccessary hours cleaning the garage floor
One big help for me was putting a dab of high temp orange silicone on the back of both metal gaskets to hold them on when putting the pump on. It will save you some cursing.
Overall its an easy install. Don't over torque your bolts!
what are the torque specs on the pump bolt....i got it off in twenty minutes...took me 1 hour to get the old gasket off..finally figured out how the scraper works....whew ...ready to install new one...do the bolts need any kind of lock tight??

Good luck.

I ended up tying mine with string which I then cut as the bolts went in.
I found a tech article here for putting on the electric water pump and the instructions were fine for putting on a new stock pump. I think it had the torque specs in that article but I have since lost it. Do a search on that electric pump people are talking aobut. I forget the name but starts with an M. Its in all the mail order parts stores. Can't miss it.
