If you are running runflats, you won't know when they are out of air. If you are running regular tires you won't be able to read pressures on the DIC. I switched to chrome Z06 wheels and Z06 tires and had a set of tire montors mounted in the rims just cause I wanted to be able to read the pressures. Hopefully someone with more info will post as to what happens if you have no pressure sensers in the rims. It might set off some computers codes?

1. The tire pressure sensors sense both high, and low, pressures.

2. You will get a "service tire pressure monitoring system" message, which if it bothers you, you clear by pressing the reset button. Every time it comes up.

3. If it really bothers you, find a competent mechanic, and have her turn it off in the BCM module using a Tech II.

You can't turn off 1997 sensors. They didn't put the turn off into software until the Z06 came out (it had no sensors).

In that case, I stand corrected.

I thought the BCM was the same.

That means, we're back to living with the message.

Why in the hell would you NOT want to have the sensors??? There is NOT any reason that I can think of that would justify not installing them! If you cant mount them in the normal installation method (Valve stem mounted), you can always use the strap in method. They both work well!

I had the sensors installed in my 02 Z06 wheels soon after I purchased it and guess what,,,the sensors saved my ***!! (Remember, Z06's DO NOT come with RUN FLATS!) I had a blow out and got an immediate alarm on the DIC and was able to safely pull over and get the car stopped before the tire flew apart and the rim was destroyed!!! If you have a completly flat tire on your C5 at highway speeds on a straight highway (NON runflats), you will drive a very long time with that flat and will not even notice it!!! Until you manuever the car (change lanes, take an off ramp ect ect... ) you may not even sense it.. The sensors are there as a safety feature and they work! If you have RUN FLATS, there isnt any way that your going to figure out that the tire is flat until you have rurined the tire or had an accident!

There are many times where the tire will have a slow leak (nail or screw) will be very low and you wont even be able to detect it as you drive! Believe me, Ive been there!!! If you have sensors, you get a warning which will let you get to an air source before it's too late.

Do your self a big favor and keep the sensors!

Thanks to Firestone and Ford, tire pressure monitor systems will be mandatory in all new cars beginning in 2009. Get them on now and keep them.

Tire sensors should run about $120 max, and the install is as simple as popping the bead on the tire (like changing a tire).

If I'm doing the math correctly for Florida, that's $130 to change a tire.

Generation I sensors from 1997-2000, will run you about $320 for 4. Generation II are much cheaper.

Last time I checked retail, they were around $120 for the earlier sensors (which is why I said "max").

Where do you buy OEM new for $80?

Link or name would be helpful.

Fred Bean or Ficthners Chevy both offer DEEP discounts on the sensors! Try them!

Dont forget!!! You CAN NOT switch to different style sensors! It will NOT work!!!! If you have early sensors, you MUST replace them with early sensors! You can not install the 2001 and up sensors as an up-grade! Dont even try!!!
