DTE Heavy Duty 20-Disc Differential Clutch Pack Upgrade Kit

The C5/C6 Corvette is an outstanding performance platform in stock trim, but reveals it’s differential weaknesses quickly when additional power is added. The stock 16-disc clutch pack design often burns up and fails under high powered applications, during burnouts or when used in racing. Replace the weak, worn or damaged stock 16-disc clutch pack in your Corvette’s differential with our direct replacement, HD 20-disc clutch pack upgrade kit! This component provides additional posi-traction clamping load and friction surface area over stock parts per side, which improves chatter-free cornering accuracy for road racing, while also enabling a straighter launch at the strip. Upgrade the weak O.E. differential clutch pack with a track proven clutch pack design from DTE today, for which there is NO substitute!

Application
1997-2004 C5 Corvette differential w/ any gear ratio or trans.
2005-'06 LS2 C6 Corvette differential w/ any gear ratio or trans.

Upgrade Kit Includes:
- 10 cryogenically treated HD friction discs
- 10 cryogenically treated & micro-polished HD steel discs
- 2 cryogenically treated & micro-polished DTE engineered HD clutch pack preload springs
- DTE decals
$269

These kits are in production now and should be in stock fully within a couple of weeks or so- which is in plenty of time for the fall weather racing season.

Will this be a standard component in future DTE HD diffs?

Not standard, but as an option.

Are the hardened shaft required/recommended with this option?

Those output shafts parts are entirely different than these parts described. This new clutch pack can be added to any differential regardless of current build level, stock or otherwise, etc.

Quote: What are the current (now old) HD clutch packs - 16 disc?
Yes.

However, our 16-disc clutch pack design we have been using in our Stage 2-4 differentials that also use our HD clutch pack preload springs are a *major* leap forward in durability over the weak, standard, stock clutch pack design that use those weak, crack-prone, stock clutch pack springs. We were way ahead of the game on that when we first released our HD 16-disc design a couple of years ago..

These new even stronger HD 20-disc clutch pack design are optional equipment in our current Stage 1-4 for those that want it and standard in our Stage 5 Super Duty Racing Differential.

Typically, drag racers will see the launch of the car at the strip become crooked and vear one way or the other, you'll see the "one-wheel-peel" during burnouts or while in the water box at the strip and road racers will have poor throttle cornering control when coming out of a corner.

Additionally, the excessive slippage within the clutch pack from broken reload springs severely overheats and contaminates the differential lubricant, which then breaks down to the point where the lube becomes "oily sand" when it gets heavily poluted with clutch friction disc material that is non-ferrous. (non-magnetic) These differential do not have oil filters, so this contaminated lube now circulates throughout the differential which starts working against the gear set, bearings and seals until you here the "gear whine" differential failure everyone is familiar with.

Clutch pack failure is usually the first link in a long chain of events leading to complete differential failure over time...

We would not suggest that you have the entire differential removed and diassembled *just* for the clutch pack upgrade alone, as that cost would be nearly the same or more if you just would have installed on of our built differentials- unless of course the the current differential clutches in your car are already damaged or have already failed in the first place.

Are these disks thinner to fit 20 in the same space as 16 or are you just adding disks and putting more pressure on the belleville washer? And then of course the disks are cryo'ed.

Awwww EG, you know we're only producing this stuff to get back onto "Grond.TV", as someone else posted your car was, earlier this week...

That's pretty cool....."Grond.TV". Kind of like the "Truman Show", only with a car instead... Heh, heh....
