Default LS7 Crate Motor

Just recieved my LS7 crate motor. I was planning to put it into one of my project cars, but then thought about just putting it into my 2000 C5coupe. Just thought I'd see if anyone has done this and how difficult would it be? Is there alot of fabrication to perform? I have a seperate shop along side the house with a lift and I am a machinist with access to a fully equipped machine shop so it wont be to hard if I do need to fabricate any brackets. I just have never even thought of messing with the C5 because it is one of my favorites. Just wanting to get some insight before I decide to committ.

The ugly problem is you have change the reluctor on the crank to run off you 2k PCM. Problem 2 is the dry sump which needs to go into battery compartment or forget the dry sump. The rest is minor and largley the same as putting in an LS2 which is pretty straght forward.

Default Ls7

Do a search here on the forum. There at least two who have done this.

It might be cheaper and easier to buy a sleeved and stroked LS2 to get big cubes.

If the dry sump is not a concern some shops are building shortblocks that use and aftermarket 4" crank with Ls1 reluctor wheel in a LS7 block. The Ls7 crank is also specific to the the dry sump with out the dry sump it gets even closer to a LS2 swap. Ls1tech has plenty of enough on the conversion.

Even simpler than that with a LS2 front cover, oil pump, pan and reluctor the LS7 is good to go. No need to change crank pulley or anthing. The crank has a longer snout for the dry sump pump but the LSx pump will replace it. I know of a guy who cut the snout back but only for a distributor/carb setup.

The motor originally bought for another project car of mine (69' camaro). A friend of mine suggested that I put the motor in my 2000 vette instead and I was just curious on how difficult the procedure was. Just doing a little research before even attempting it.
