Default Dyno question

Can anybody tell me when a six speed car is on a dyno, what gear does it have to be in when the run is going on. Do you shift up thru all the gears or do you just start out in one and rev it to red line. I have only witnessed a dyno test twice. One shifted thru the gears and the other seemed to start in the middle and let it rip. I would think the test should be done in 4th or 5th gear but I dont know.

Most people use 4th gear since its 1:1 ratio.

Theoretically you can do it in any gear but the longest and cleanest pulls are usually in 3rd or 4th.

On F/I cars you will typicall only do a 4th gear run. As stated above, its due to the 1:1 ratio.
When carburated you can also perform what is called an "All Gear" run. This is done by putting the car in 2nd and slamming the gears until the final gear. This test is performed so that you can verify the tune (fuel only) throughout ALL the gears.

Thanks, I finally decided a dyno tune is what I need to do rather than buy a plug in tuner. I found a local guy who has a dyno and if he can do a tune on the vette I want to get it done.
