I know this has been posted previously but I thought I'd share my experience which was a little different than what I had read. Anyway I just installed the C6 shifter and thanks to 97Vette.com, Vette Essentials (Ken ) and Patches it went very well. I did have a little problem diconnecting the passenger airbag connector (you have to pull up on the tab instead of pressing down on the little lip that catches the tab) duh! I also had a little trouble reconnecting the gas door connector (you have to turn the armrest upside down to do it). Funny the part I was most worried about was breaking was the dash cover and it popped right off. I also was not sure what to do with the little pin in front of the new shifter. I knew something needed to be done because you can't move the shifter. I tried to pry it up and it would not pop up then I got serious and used a large screwdriver and gave it some boost and Voila it popped up and all was well. Thanks to another poster with the idea of turning the boot inside out and putting the screw that holds the new **** on from under the boot. It looks great and the **** feels better than the stock C5 shifter. I wish it was a little thicker though and I hated to take my Vette Essentials black and red **** off but still have their boot and armrest cover. It also sits nicer because it is canted back a few inches. It may be my imagination but it feels like it goes into first and reverse better. That may be because the stocker was originally installed at the factory slightly out of position. Just a guess.
I would not have ventured into this if it weren't for a few forum members convincing me to install my CLB I had sitting in my garage for 9 months. After doing that and seeing how the dash knee pad popped off I felt confident enough to go ahead and get the shifter. This forum is great, thanks to all who previously posted and made my task so easy!
i just installed mine last night at 2 AM when i got home it was sitting on my porch lol... install took roughly 25 minutes... REALLY easy. i love this shifter so much more then stock. very precise and easier to drive IMO. and it looks great.

So it's not my imagination. I thought it was more precise and smother but was not sure if it was just me. I like the way it fits and feels in my hand better than stock also. I don't feel any difference in effort either so it's the best of both worlds, shorter and smother.
Guys...Is there any difference between the C6 Z06 shifter and the
standard coupe/vert C6 shifter?
I can't answer that. The Z06 is what everybody was recommending so its what I asked for when I called Fitchner's Chevrolet. BTW they were very good to do business with.
