I hope to pick up a 97 this Sat. It does not have Runflats but it does have the press. sensors installed. I want to carry a small tire repair kit, any suggestions? Are some brands of the flat repair cans safe for the sensors or do they all cause corrosion?
The TireRack sells a fixaflat type product that is supposed to be safe for the TPS. As to a repair kit, you'll need a decent plug kit and a small compressor at a minimum - you can add more stuff if you choose (e.g. ground cover, jack, pair of gloves, etc.).
I have read a number of articles on this and I think there are somethings to consider. First of all if you have a flat tire are you going to be able to get it to an area were you can work on it without damaging your tire or rim. Also if it is a blowout are gash what are you going to do!!! Fix a flat is not going to work on a gash or blow out. also this car is so low and requires special atention when it comes to jacking. A plug may work sometime you may find a company that makes a product that will not damage you tps but soner or latter you will pay the price for not having run flats. The question is truly yours to answear can you afford to not have run flats. Many people say that non run flats ride better and that is great if you can afford to be stuck in the middle of no were are to have your car flat beded to a repair shop when you can not fix the tire. Just some things to consider good luck with your new car.
Get a plug kit and an air pump you can plug in your lighter. You can plug the tire on the car without jacking and then pump it up. That will get you where your going. Be sure to get the tire "professionally" patched from the inside as soon as you can.
